Job Description:
A major utility company in the Washington D.C. area is seeking for immediate hire a tax accountant in search of a challenge to join their dynamic team of tax professionals. Our client is looking for a candidate who is problem solver and an independent thinker, someone willing to learn about the utilities industry, tackle increasingly complex tax issues and grow as a professional, not a mere paper-pusher. This position offers significant growth potential and upward mobility for the right type of candidate. Officially titled Income Tax Specialist, the incumbent will participate in financial reporting for income taxes under FAS 109, the preparation of federal and state income tax returns, including tax depreciation and workpapers and support regulatory reporting in normal recurring filings as well as rate cases. In this role you will: • Analyze and prepare workpapers for federal and state income tax returns, including tax depreciation, M-1’s, tax return true-ups and perform tax research. • Prepare pro forma federal and state income tax returns using tax specific compliance software. • Prepare schedules and roll forward the Company’s tax basis balance sheets. • Respond to inquiries related to income taxes from tax authorities and both internal and external auditors. • Prepare underlying tax accrual data. • Assist with preparation of tax accruals under FAS 109. • Analyze the results of the financial reporting process, including preparation of supporting schedules and account reconciliations for monthly variance analysis, audit committee meetings and the 10-Q and 10-K. • Recommend and implements process improvements that relate to the duties of the position. • Represent the department and the Company interests before various audiences, including other departments within the company, auditors and taxing authorities.
Mandatory Minimum Qualifications - Must Have: • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. • A minimum of three years of related experience, preferably in tax in a public accounting or corporate environment. • Familiarity with ASC 740 (FAS 109). • Demonstrated ability to evaluate accounting transactions and the corresponding tax implications. • Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, to share, retrieve, research and present business information. • Familiarity PeopleSoft nVision, Query, Crystal Reports or a similar automated reporting tool preferred. • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors and peers. • Demonstrated ability to logically analyze and solve narrowly-defined business problems. • Demonstrated ability to present diverse ideas in a logical and concise manner, both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications: • CPA License. • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft General Ledger.
