Job Description:
FUNCTION Accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include leadership and vision for the accounting area, management and development of the accounting staff, the production of periodic financial and regulatory reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and ensure the accuracy of the company's reported financial results. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports to the Director of Financial Reporting. Manages accounting staff of the company. High visibility and ongoing first contact relationship with company executives. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the recording of the company’s financial transactions, the preparation and interpretation of financial reports and statements for the company’s Board of Directors, internal management and outside groups. Prepare reports, which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position, in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present and expected operations. Ensure that reports conform to GAAP and regulatory standards, with proper disclosure requirements. Supervise accounting staff and set the direction and tone of the accounting group that fosters timely and accurate reporting, with an ongoing philosophy of continual improvement. End responsibility for all routine regulatory filings. Supervise preparation of and review forms for quarterly and annual filing with regulatory bodies. Calculate the monthly deferred tax and federal, state and local income, franchise and sales tax balance sheet positions. Coordinate the preparation of federal and state income, franchise and sales tax returns. Supervise and review preparation of supporting schedules for tax returns. A primary contact for company’s internal and external audits. Demonstrate ability to understand and produce complex accounting and financial analysis. Demonstrate ability to master accounting and finance systems.
Mandatory Minimum Qualifications - Must Have: RELOCATION TO MIDWEST U.S. CITY REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE The Controller position requires a bachelor degree in Finance or Accounting and typically 10+ years of accounting experience in a large bank, finance company or possibly public accounting Experience as a Bank Controller strongly preferred. Progressive leadership experience. CPA strongly preferred. Requires experience with personal computers, spreadsheets, database, word processing, and financial modeling software. Experience in bank accounting and/or operations strongly preferred.
