WHY IS THIS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY?
Stepping stone to the CFO role within 2 years. Current revenue is 18M and projected to be 40M in 5 years. The Director of Finance will oversee all accounting and finance functions for the company and will supervise the accounting staff. Initially, the candidate will serve as project manager to oversee the sourcing of accounting and operational data from the companies insurance distribution partners and the related internalization of back office accounts receivable functions including a systems implementation. The successful candidate will be expected to partner with the President and Regional Vice Presidents to understand key business drivers and identify opportunities while maintaining a strong systems and control environment. Prior experience in the insurance or banking sector would be an asset.
JOB DESCRIPTIONFinancial accounting • Manage relationships with counterparts at FSC affiliate companies, insurance distribution partners and banking partners • Oversee all financial processes and internal control environment of FFI operations • Prepare monthly financial statements and reporting package for corporate • Supervise accounting staff ensuring accuracy and completeness of monthly journals and reconciliations • Work closely with affiliate company controllers to ensure accurate reporting of profit sharing and balancing of intercompany amounts • Work closely with distribution partners to ensure timely receipt of data and timely collection of receivables Project management • Lead systems implementation comprising: implementation of Great Plains general ledger; and identification and implementation of accounts receivable sub ledger system • Manage consulting firm to develop and implement standard form data requirements from distributions partners • Lead transition of outsourced back office services to internal solution including developing processes and controls surrounding the collection, aggregation and input of data to support accounting and operating systems • Develop management and financial reporting to support retail brokerage and insurance products businesses Financial analysis • Review and analyze key business metrics and provide analytical financial support on new product development • Lead monthly review and analysis of operating reports and dashboard for President and Regional VP’s • Provide recommendations on new opportunities and expense management, identifying and communicating opportunities Budgeting and Planning • Lead and coordinate the development of multi market budgets; working with and challenging assumptions of regional vice presidents • Coordinate with affiliate companies to ensure communication of budget assumptions • Update and review of forecast monthly; identifying opportunities and risk areas
• Professional accounting designation and or MBA • 5-8 years of professional work experience in an auditing or corporate setting with prior experience in insurance or banking an asset • Strong understanding of business processes and internal controls • Strong understanding of systems with knowledge of Great Plains an asset • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications • Must have strong proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet design and maintenance, navigating in databases, creating presentations, record keeping and researching the Internet • Strong presentation skills • Ability to work with sensitive or confidential information • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently and be self-driven
