JOB DESCRIPTIONSenior Cost Accountant The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for the administration and improvement of product cost development, recording and reporting processes, preparing analysis of physical inventories, ledger, financial statements and product/margin variances. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties maybe assigned. This position will administer the operations of the Standard Cost system. Develop and publish procedures to assure continuity of system operation. Suggest cost system changes to improve the validity of product costs. Develop standard costs, using costing system developed the Plant Controller. Review costs developed versus expected trends or cost targets and investigate variances to support corrective action. Work with other departments to resolve "cost errors" as reported by the system. Review costs as requested by others to identify drivers influencing costs. Represent the Accounting Group on product rationalization and value analysis teams providing financial information as required. Value inventory transactions and make journal entries. Evaluate data for any unexpected trends or values. Investigate and correct if required. Produce reports showing plant performance versus cost standards and inventory values versus objectives. Develop performance metrics which help clarify the meaning of results. Maintain solid knowledge of cost accounting system and its intended business support benefits. Assist members of the Operating Department in understanding reports and the business processes that drive them. Assist in the annual physical inventory. Participate in inventory planning, developing inventory instructions and training participants. Act as Lead Auditor during taking of the physical. Values the inventory counted and resolves erroneous or ambiguous counting information. Review inventory transaction history and journal entries to resolve identified deviations between book and physical. Regularly audit the plant cycle counting systems to assure that results are accurate and procedures are effective. Assist Operations in improving the system as needed.
EXPERIENCE: Three to five years of overall accounting experience with a minimum of three solid years of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment. Prior experience working with a MRP system required. PC proficiency required in spreadsheet and data base software. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in accounting. Working knowledge of cost accounting as well as capital allocation and financial justification, automated cost development and management systems, physical inventory cycle counting, variance analysis, budget preparation and analysis.
